Exactly! It's all about what's important to you.

Vaios look nice! Real sleek and probably the best looking computers on the market besides Apple. I didn't think the backlit keyboard would be that big of a deal, but it's a great feature.

Nice! When I move out in a million years, I'll probably going to just get NetFlix and not worry about cable. I'll also use ahem...other methods...to get the stuff that NetFlix doesn't have. It's amazing how much video is online now. All the the major networks stream entire episodes on their websites now, plus all the funny 2 minute clips on YouTube.

Netflix! It's not really a splurge at $8.99 a month, but I'm a movie/tv junkie and I feel better about watching stuff legally so that writers actors etc. get compensation for their hard work.

But I save on clothes. I raid Marshalls/TJ Maxx and those wonderful 50% of clearance sales for awesome deals. (I got a $400 pair of jeans for $10 the other day. Boo ya!)

I see no problem with you "splurging" in certain areas as long as you have set financial priorities and you aren't living beyond your means!

I recently bought a Sony Vaio for more than the combined price of my two desktops! But I love that backlit keyboard as well!

Quite a few of my friends are commuting too and we've already decided that we don't want to be the loners who only come to school for class and leave right away. I should also mention that my school has a ton of commuters. So it shouldn't be hard to find people with similar situations to mine.

Living off campus but closer to the school is a no go. I'm not quite at the point where I'm comfortable living completely by myself and there isn't time to find suitable roommates.

Love the discussion guys!

I'm hoping so! I have commuting friends and friends staying on campus, so I should be able to get a taste of both.

I think this sounds like a wiser choice. And if my experience is anywhere near typical, you don't really miss out on much...just more nights sleeping on floors and couches than the on-campus crowd.

There's many things I regret about my time in university (should have done more studying, less drinking), but I never felt that I was missing out on anything by living with my parents.

It's been my experience that there are few hard and fast rules to interviewing.

When I interviewed for the best paying job I've ever been offered (I turned it down...sounded boring), my phone rang not once, but twice. There are ways to recover. As soon as it rings, silence it. My phone has a side button that will shut the thing up. Apologize, and then when the call's complete, turn it off.

People forget about phones all the time. So long as you handle it professionally, and don't answer the phone - even just to say "not right now" or something to that effect - they're unlikely to hold it against you.

Likewising, being underdressed is bad, but so is being overdressed. Though less bad, it can still a point against you. Try to guess the kind of job you're interviewing for, and dress 1-2 steps above what you expect everyday wear to be. Construction crew? Interview in business casual, maybe even just a newish pair of jeans. Office work varies. The government or a legal firm is probably suit material, an oil company or engineering firm is just business formal. The back office at a manufacturing plant is business casual. Know your audience.

Saving $8,000 a year is a good thing. But, you might miss that sense of community that you get from living on campus. It's not all about freedom and being away from the eyes of your parents.

You won't be able to go back to your room and crash between classes. You'll spend an extra hour a day commuting.

There are definitely a couple of people on my campus who commute, but nobody knows them really well!

Join as many clubs/groups as you can because you won't get to know your neighbors.

How about living off-campus, but near your school?

Haha, we agree pretty much. I will say though, it's hard to resist when someone says you can have dessert...for free!
