Midweek Link Love: Spring Break Edition

by Ryan on March 23, 2011

I’m off school this week, attempting to do as little as possible. Books for next quarter have been ordered and classes will be starting again soon, but until then I’m trying to relax. Here are a few articles that caught my eye in the last few weeks.

I participated in the 301st Carnival of Personal Finance: Color Theory Edition. There are some great posts there, so check ‘em out when you get a chance.

How I Avoided Student Loans @ Budgeting In the Fun Stuff – I fully admit to slacking when it comes to scholarships and my GPA out of high school fell squarely in to the “good, but not great enough for money to be thrown at me camp”. That said, I love hearing how other are getting degrees without major repayment to think about later. Maybe it’ll motivate me one of these days.

How Do You Handle Financial Windfalls? @ Studenomics – I’ll let you know when I get one! ;) . The only windfalls I usually receive are from birthdays/Christmas/turning coins into cash and I usually just put it in savings or checking. Boring, I know.

Why A One Day Gas Boycott Won’t Lower Gas Prices @ Faithful With A Few – I’m so glad someone wrote this. These type of boycott represents a complete lack of any economic knowledge. I squeaked by microeconomics with a C last quarter and even I can tell you this makes no sense. Besides the obvious economic problems, I hate the mentality that somehow we “deserve” cheap gasoline and oil.

Who Pays No Tax @ Joe Taxpayer – The best thing about this article is the complete lack of political bias. It’s hard to talk about taxes without getting political, but this post managed it. It’s also very straightforward in showing how a family can incur zero federal income tax liability.
